Oyo State of Nigeria - i hope all state governments are not like this.

I know, infact, everybody knows that governance in Nigeria is not about service.. and people have seemed to accept their fate while they pray that years should run so one set could replace themselves with another..

But they still hope that it wouldn't be this bad..

And this is bad..i do not think i have ever seen a state degenerate into this near statelessness (if i may say so myself).

And there is a head, a governor..and every month there is a specific amount designated for use in this state...yet...

teachers have been on strike for almost 3 months now..(i read that he asked if they want him t break the bank to pay them..well, it desn't look like he broke the bank to do owambe for his wife birthday or the extravagance that was his daughter's wedding two weeks later)

doctors at the state hospitals are on strike...

judicial workers are on strike...

lecturers at the state University are on strike, students are home..

transport workers (NURTW) are fighting (thank God for Ramadan, they've shielded their swords, for now)

the governor is fighting with a neighbouring state's governor over a University ...so the school is closed..

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but then as they say, the state is a microcosm of the whole..is it the case here? or should i even ask that?

all i know is that, this state needs some good governance ..and fast too!!

and why do i care? you may ask... i live here, that's why! and like it or not, bad governance affects everyone!

the man in charge - Otunba Alao-Akala

***sidenote - can the PDP-led Fededral governance call him to order? it may not be constitutional but wouldn't that be a political solution?

(and the man is seeking second term. imagine!!!)

5 SHARED FAB THOTS:

  1. even when i came home and came to Ibadan in 2008, it was horrible. i didn't think things could get worse and Ibadan used to be my America when growing up.I love that city. Sigh. God dey

  2. 2nd term for what? The state is in an absolute disarray. The federal govt should be able to intervene. This guy is a thug is governors clothes.

This year, his son flew 12 or so of his friends to and fro, first class o, to attend his dad's birthday in Lagos. They also lodged at vip-suites... Who is paying for all these?

  4. Neefemi -it's truly sad cos this state has huge potentials. this country is a huge joke.

@Zel - it's appalling the way public fund is squandered. but des the fed govt have the political will? we all know nothing has come out of the EFCC 'investigation' of the 2.something billion naira road contracts award.

@the fish - indeed! cos one wuld have thught he wuld seek to impress since he desires to be returned as gov next year..but whosai!! d man no send..apparently, he knows the people's votes don't count.

  5. The man destroyed Oyo state, the road are bad and practically every thing is not in order. If votes counts and people are in their right senses the man should not even be allowed to represent his party not to talk of contesting to vote.

The man is some serious thug, but what do you expect from an ex police boss
